In the New Testament, "church" means the gathering of disciples, usually in a private home. In the history of the Church, the times of greatest vitality are always marked by the gathering of small groups of Christians in one another's homes. Indeed, it can be shown that the life of the people of God must include both large gatherings for corporate worship and small gatherings for reading of the Scriptures, for prayer, mutual support, and planning for mission.
